The Wynford PTO is holding a read-a-thon in conjunction with Right to Read Week at the elementary.
How does the read-a-thon work? There are two components. The first is the Reading Log that came home in every elementary child's packet. Students are encouraged to read every night this week. Fill out the sheet and return it to your child's teacher for a cool prize sponsored by PTO. Plus, as students complete their iReady reading for the week, they can earn entries into a prize drawing!
The second component is a pledge drive. We hope your child will consider asking others to fuel their excitement for reading. It's easy to ask for pledges. Use the paper form in the packet, or visit https://go.ptoffice.io/wynford2023/ and search for your child under students. This will bring up your child's individualized fundraising page. Share this link with family members, friends, etc. Every $25 your child collects will earn an entry into the prize drawing. Funds raised will be spent on enrichment activities for all students at Wynford Elementary as well as special updates to the elementary library. Pledges are calculated based on the minutes of iReady reading completed for the week of March 26. No need to calculate minutes; teachers will enter the minutes for students at the conclusion of the read-a-thon. If you need some ideas for asking for pledges, check out the ideas in the read-a-thon packet that came home! Friends and family love to support students, and this is a quick and meaningful way to invite them to show your child that reading is fun and important. Plus, PTO is able to keep nearly all of the funds, which allows us to give back more to the elementary students. Pledges will be accepted through April 5.
Students earn entry tickets into a prize drawing both through their reading activities and through their fundraising. Prizes to be given away include Cedar Point tickets, zoo tickets, Legos, activity kits, arts and craft sets, and more. The more reading students complete and the more pledges they collect, the more entries they earn.
When students learn to love reading and they have fun doing it, they become better at it! Let's help Wynford Elementary Dive Into Reading with the 2023 Read-a-thon! Visit the PTO Facebook page for more information.
