Course Descriptions - 7th grade


Fundamentals of Mathematics 1: Fundamentals of Mathematics 1 is an exploratory and hands-on class that will be used to reinforce and enrich concepts learned in students’ current and previous math classes. Activities will be designed to show real world applications for mathematics and may include labs and Study Island. The course will be graded S/U.

Ag. Exploration 1: 7th grade Ag. Exploration will consist of four areas. They include: Plant Science, Food Science, Bio-energy, and Wood Construction. Students will spend 1 to 3 weeks in each of the areas mentioned. Hands on activities will help develop problem solving, communication, and cooperation skills with other students.

Physical Education 7: The Physical Education program provides each student with the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program consisting of skill development, lead up games, team sports, and physical fitness activities. The students receive instruction in rules, skills, and strategies associated with the different sports as well as learning experiences involving physical conditioning activities. The students will also have the opportunities to become involved in life long physical activities through individual sports units. The program promotes the spirit of cooperation, leadership, fair play, and friendly competition.

S.T.E.M: In this 9 week class students have the opportunity to experience hands on individual and group projects highlighting science, technology, engineering and math skills.

Band: The Junior High School Band class allows students to study music from an instrumental perspective. In this class students will study, rehearse, and perform pieces of music of different styles, ranging from classical to pop, and from a variety of cultures. There are a few after school rehearsal requirements for this class, and a minimum of one after school performance for each grading period. Enrollment is open to all students. With the exception of a very few large instruments, students are required to provide their own instruments.

Money & You: The objective of Money & You is to introduce junior high students to the function and services available in areas such as consumerism, banking, and credit.
